Wang is an elderly whom she lives alone in a rented flat. She earns a living by collecting scrap papers around her residential area. Although Wang is struggling with poverty, she has no family members or relatives she can turn to. Every day, Wang is forced to walk around to collect scrap papers despite she is a diabetic. She too suffers from back pain and her toe was amputated few years ago due to an accident. As she is getting older, her back pain has caused her to develop a hunchback and the pain is getting unbearable. However, all her pains do not stop her from walking around to collect scrap papers as this is the only income she can earn from.

Wang lives a simple life. Besides collecting scrap papers, she diligently clean her house and prays to the God. Every day without fails, Wang will dutifully pray to the God and it seems that believing in the God is the only strength for her to go on her life. During the interview with Wang, she reminisced the past that she used to have a life partner to rely on. Sadly, her relationship was strongly against by her mother and demanded Wang to work to raise the whole family. Wang’s mother subsequently died of diabetes and her brother too died of a car accident, living no other family members with her. Wang felt sympathy for her sister-in law and the children, thus, she decided to sacrifice herself to raise her brother’s family. Wang hoped that in future her nephews and nieces would take good care of herself. Yet in return, all his nieces and nephews ignored her and turned her away.

It is rather a distressing moment when the breadwinner of a family is unable to earn a living anymore. Eng Ah Kiat (Ng), who works as a plumbing worker, is currently unable to move around as he accidentally fell off from the ceiling when he was trying to fix a water tank. As a result, he broke his pelvis and back bones, and fractured both his wrists. Being the breadwinner of the family, Ng is worried about the family’s financial burdens more than his injuries.

Ng was being treated in the hospital for 2 weeks. To date, both Ng’s wrists are bandaged and he needs to use cushion to fix his broken back and pelvic bones. Ng would not be able to move around until all his injuries have recovered. The doctor in charge broke the news to Ng that those injuries might take few months or up to more than a year to be recovered; the Ng family would lose their income for a long term. Luckily, all the medical expenses were covered by Ng’s employer and this has, indeed, lessened their worry.

Ng has three children whom they are still young. Ng claimed that it was rather an uphill struggle even before his injuries; he was unable to afford massive living expenses, inflation and school fees of his three children with his low income. Ng too has not been paying the rental for more than 4 years. Fortunately, the landlord is a kind-hearted person and he allows them to pay him once their financial status is getting better. And now that he is unable to work, the financial burden of the family is getting heavier. Yet his wife is unable to help to reduce the burden as she needs to take care of Ng and their children.

NewscutName: Name: Du 杜伟良
Age: 14
Condition: Mentally and physically handicapped

Du is a 14-year-old boy who is both mentally and physically handicapped. He was not born handicapped but due to a high fever at the age of two. The parents were negligent in sending him to the hospital on time when he was having a high fever. That had resulted in him suffering from asphyxia and consequently hindered the natural growth of Du. His spine fails to develop well and Du has to rely on wheelchair.

Sadly, Du’s father never feels sympathy for his son. Instead, he is ashamed of having such a son, not realizing that he is part of the fault. The grandparents of Du’s father too give Du a cold shoulder. They tease and scold their grandson without showing love and care to Du. Du’s mother is the only one who never abandons Du. Du’s mother is disappointed with her husband and her parents-in-law. They never give support to her and Du. She used to cry silently at night and there were couples of times she thought of committing suicide. Despite having a hard time, she knows that her son needs her most and this has given her the strength to go on her life. She stays strong even her husband and her parents-in-law do not want to take care of Du and ignore them completely.
