Thailand floods relief mission

The rescue team of Yayasan Nanyang Press mainly helped to send adequate supplies and resources to victims. They were brave and fearless in battling the worst flooding in decades. They were not afraid of any potential health threats such as skin diseases, fungal infections caused by the flood. Apart from that, they had to encounter dangerous animals such as crocodiles and poisonous snakes that may hide in the filthy water. Their courage spurred everyone on.

Thailand floods relief missionFor example, Tor was a worker who immediately ceased his work and volunteered to help out in the relief effort. Due to the long hours of exposure to the filthy water, Tor was infected with skin disease. He refused to wear boots that especially ordered from China to protect the volunteers but Tor claimed that he wanted to save it for those who had not been infected with skin diseases.

Thailand floods relief missionAlso, Ireen Ong, who is the director of a company and also one of the Yayasan Nanyang Press volunteers, gave up her work and joined the rescue team. With her broad networking, she managed to raise considerable funds and sources for the benefit of the victims. On the other hand, an elderly woman who owns a Toufu Factory had volunteered herself to join the rescue team. Despite her old age, the elderly woman cook for the victims and helped to deliver foods to the victims. She remained optimistic and reassured that the flood is to re-unite the people in Thailand to overcome any obstacles. Her encouraging and positive attitude motivated the people around her.

The Yayasan Nanyang Press rescue team worked from dawn till dusk, with the only vision to save more lives. Most of the victims had been successfully evacuated to the temporarily shelters such as schools and temples. However, those temporary shelters were poorly equipped and the victims required more foods, blankets, sleeping bags and most importantly, milk powders for the babies. Notwithstanding, there were residents in inundated neighbourhoods reluctant to leave their homes especially the women. They wanted to protect their homes. Their unwillingness to cooperate with the rescue team had complicated the flood relief effort. The Yayasan Nanyang Press volunteers spent times to persuade and evacuate those women but nonetheless, those women insisted on one of their children to stay behind to keep an eye on the house.

The reporters of China Press too faced various difficulties in reaching the flooded areas. The filthy water had flooded into the streets and suspended any transportation services in the country. Yet the reporters spent efforts in visiting the disaster areas and had tried their best to do live reports for the public in order to call for donation. Seeing that, the manager of Yayasan Nanyang Press claimed that the major funds were used to purchase more raft boats to ease the relief effort. Raft boats are the most important transportation for now to send supplies and resources to victims and also to evacuate any remaining trapped victims in their flooded homes.

Hereby, Yayasan Nanyang Press urges any supporting readers to give a helping hand for Thailand Flood Relief.
